“Elections might look different if more leaders carried Bernie’s torch instead of parroting Chuck Schumer’s hollow centrism. People don’t resonate with visionless platitudes. They respond to class politics. They always have.” This is what concerns me about Rob Sands’ campaign for governor - trying to please everyone and not pleasing anyone. Maybe Iowa can’t handle it any other way.
I just watched this, we need more videos like this and hear the Real people of this country. We’ve got to get away from attacking each other based on who we voted for and Understanding the reasons why.
I personally would love more content like this, real people not scripted just being honest.
Your reporting through storytelling touches the heart in ways that help us during this dark time. Thank you.
I’m not in a position to become a regular paying subscriber, but, some substack authors set up one time payment options that can be repeated as often as people can afford to do so. I would definitely offer support in that way.
This was soothing to read. Bernie is truly a man for the people, and it's reassuring to know that people like him are still out there raising their voices. The labor movement and Blair Mountain are inspiring pieces of history; we all need a little bit of those workers' fight in us to overcome our present situation.
West Virginia deserves better. It our time to shine, if we play our cards correctly. We need to leverage our resources for investments which this state has ever seen. As far as I'm concerned every major corporation in this country was built on the backs of West Virginians. That shit started in 1863 and from that date what do we have to show from it? Nothing, stolen resources destroyed valleys, broken lives. It's time, it's time West Virginia to stand up and fight. It's about damn time for these industries to start investing in our state before they even break ground on their project. Billions.
That piece with Bernie was priceless. Brought tears to my eyes that those folks in the clip should be made to believe that other Americans out here in blue urban areas don’t 100% agree that no American should have to struggle that hard for health care and a living wage. There’s more that unites us than divides us. Autocrats thrive on stoking the division - always have, always will.
And finally dear John Russell, I really really think it’s time you become a candidate. For something, anything. This country needs your translation services in the biggest possible way.
Hey John Russell. Great story telling grounded in solid history. Thanks for doing your homework. Keep it coming!

This moved me to tears and gave me hope for America that I haven't felt in too long. Thank you for the work you do.

Bernie looks so frail! I hope he has a support team to make sure he gets enough to eat.
Bernie makes me feel better. So does your storytelling. 💙
What a much-needed boost to see this!
Bless you and your work. Love from Brendan in Australia.

It was good to see this story, and decent men trying to help us understand we can hope and help all of us have healthcare and enough to eat.
