Because I think we’re in the eye of a political hurricane right now. Wild conspiracy speculation is likely to continue taking over our politics if we don’t accurately lay out why things are the way they are and how they could be if we took action together.
I’m from the Ohio Valley. It’s the part hugging the Ohio River with hills and old steel mills. The place is politically fascinating. Only fifteen years ago, the valley voted as blue as it is red today. And today, it’s redder than most. In only four years here, what had been a 75,000-vote advantage for Obama became a 120,000-vote advantage for Trump.
I could go on about this but I’ll spare you for now. The Holler has a simple thesis. A few people have all the wealth that used to be in places like the one where I grew up, and working people of all political stripes can have nice things when we stick together.
