Fight back against billionaire-funded right-wing misinformation for 16 pennies a day
Day 5 of The Holler’s five day strike for more $60/year sustaining members.
I feel like I’m writing one of those sad animal commercials with Sarah McLachlan music, but whatever here we go!
It’s the last day of The Holler’s 5-day strike for more $60 per year paid subscribers! Here’s a reminder of what you’re supporting:
Independent pro-working class media headquartered in industrial Appalachia.
Social media reach of 100,000+ weekly with pro-working class messaging.
Stories that start here and leap into national and international media.
Appearances on larger shows to advance pro-working class political narratives.
The “trusted messenger” media model with the potential to help fight billionaire-funded right-wing misinformation. Imagine what we could do with a network of 10,000 trusted messengers!
All it takes to pitch in is $60 per year (AKA $5/month, AKA 16 pennies per day).
20 new people have become sustaining members of The Holler over the last five days bringing our number of paid subscribers to 134 people.
To some, it may not be much. To me, it’s amazing. I’m so proud of what we’re doing together and I have each and every one of you to thank, exclusively, for keeping The Holler around. It literally could not happen without this support.
If you like the content, support more pro-working class media in our politics, and want to help fight billionaires, we need you. Sign up now for $60/year to help grow this project together.
There’s endless content that could be made over the next 12 months. The following is a non-exhaustive list in no particular order. Paid subscribers have comments turned on, so let me know what you think of this list and what else should be on it!
Broad goal: make content that raises working-class consciousness. If most of your money is made by selling your labor, you’re working class and share fundamental political interests with the vast majority of Americans.
Document and deconstruct the rise of the radical right-wing.
Document and deconstruct the massive wealth gap.
Break down and review good books on labor organizing and working-class politics.
On the ground regional labor organizing coverage.
Weekly political discussion threads for sustaining members.
Fun stories from my part-time job as a dive bartender in Appalachia.
Awesome Appalachia profiles - show off the awesome things people are doing here.
Be a pain in the ass to JD Vance. He’s more than a grifter riding his rags to riches story. His rise to power has broader implications for our politics that are not good.
Help spread the work of Appalachian think tanks like the Ohio River Valley Institute that are advocating for the region’s future.
Man on street interviews in the Ohio Valley about wealth and work.
Possible in-person events in the Ohio Valley to talk about local labor organizing.
Making content about all of this takes a lot of work. I’m glad to do it if you’ll support my labor for $60/year (COME ON! THAT’S 16 PENNIES PER DAY!)
Thank you all for your support over the last year and on this 5-day strike for paid subscribers! The normal schedule resumes this week.
You've talked a lot about how conservatives expertly play the long game. Do democrats or progressives have anything similar (i.e., Powell-like playbook, Heritage Foundation, ALEC, etc.)? If no, why not, and if yes, why isn't it working?
