I grew up in the Ohio Valley. It’s always been home even when I spent time away. To the casual outside observer, it can seem like the kind of place where funny people get their ass kicked.

But like most passing stereotypical assessments, there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes. This is a quick glimpse into the people building a thriving stand-up comedy scene in Appalachia from scratch.

Countless people in Appalachia are making something from nothing in places that everyone else expects to quietly fade away. To those people I say, shine on, ya crazy diamonds.
