Hey y’all. East Palestine is spittin’ distance from my hometown and the current city where I am. I’m headed there tomorrow to follow up with a rail union rep that was interviewed in The Holler on December 22nd (check that ep for more). Drop any questions or suggestions for that trip here.
The newsletter and new TikToks have been delayed a bit. I’m a one-man band and though I doth protest, I must occasionally tend to QuickBooks and accounting manners that never cease to give me ulcers.
The East Palestine development will delay some stuff I had in the works. As will the fact that I have to work two bar shifts Thursday and Friday (speaking of which, help me reduce hours at the bar by subscribing to this newsletter!)
Ok! That’s all! Stay tuned for that hot hot content…. soon.
I'm with Hanna on the cleanup efforts and environmental impacts!
I understand all the big guys - not just Norfolk Southern - have eliminated 45,000+ jobs in recent years. Could a lack of manpower have contributed to the derailment?
For people there: can you envision feeling safe at home in EP again given the pollution? What do you expect the cleanup to be like and what would you hope it to be like? (soil remediation, water quality testing, etc.?) Do you have any demands of your local/state/national govs and/or the rail/chemical industries?
Generally I am also wondering how the evacuation radius is decided. Should people outside the radius take precautions too? What keeps toxic air from traveling further than the decided distance?(thinking of the effects this will have on surrounding communities that didn't have to evacuate)
