Thank you so much for your reporting. I am the resident who was speaking to him and I knew I recognized you standing next to me. He also told me he was not there to talk about that, but I definitely was! It was our town this week but it'll be anybody's town next week if we don't get to the root of this problem.

Gia —

I’m in KS, not OH. So first let me say how sorry I am that East Palestine is struggling now because of this “accident.”

I am near the Keystone pipeline rupture in our state — the largest tar sands oil spill in Keystone history. There is a lot of ping pong, back-and-forth between state and federal and TC Energy re: who is responsible for what. The landowner is at the mercy of his bad decision to do business with TC Energy. But all the residents along the creek and spillway pay an inordinate price, and the rest of us do too, we just don’t know how much, or even when, our bill will come due.

I can't with him 🤦‍♀️ What is so hard about saying "you know what, yes, I did help stop the rail strike, because it would've decimated an already struggling economy, I didn't see this coming and I'm sorry. Now that I've seen what the workers were talking about, I will do everything in my power - my *political* power - to make sure this never happens again." How hard would it be?? 👀

Lindsay, in a normal world you’d be right. What is so hard about “You know what? Yes I did help stop the strike?”

But, we’re not in the normal world!

What those of us who are perfecting our bird-dogging techniques need to learn, is to quickly volley back their words. So, Gia might’ve said “Yeah, I know. It’s a bitch. You ran for political power, which you say you’ll use for me / E. Palestine. But you now won’t talk “politics”?? When it really matters?? It’s a question of power and influence — to do right by workers make the system work for not against us. So if you won’t talk about that now, what’s the point of you being here?“

Thank you for your reporting. The EPA itself released toxic sludge into our Animas River 8 years ago. Turned the Animas River yellow from Silverton, CO to Arizona.

Our then Governor Jon Hickenlooper, now a Senator, cane down on the "It's Safe To Drink" Tour.

Our country is run by the corporations and the red/blue divide gives the illusion of choice. I think George Carlin said it is one big party and you ain't in it.

I sat and watched your whole livestream of the town hall. I very rarely feel bad for politicians, but the Mayor clearly has no clue what is going to happen to his town and was trying to hold his self together for the people who elected him.

That being said, I think it’s time we took to the rails and started walking down to Norfolk on the rails to meet them in their house while occupying OUR rails. Their mayor would be a peoples mayor if he leads it.

Great post. Bill Johnson is an empty suit. He’s done nothing for our county except a credit for things Democrats have done.
